Diversion Pit Structure
To improve system reliability and create additional capacity within the existing 1650mm diameter Geelong Main Outfall Sewer, the base of a 4m diameter, 4m deep diversion chamber was demolished and rebuilt — removing a redundant internal weir structure and providing a new 1m diameter inlet for the coastal sewers.
Tee Removal
Abandonment of the old oxygen dissolver system required removal of a mild steel tee, replacement, and bandaging of a new 1650mm diameter pipe. Across the plant, new works required on-site welding to connect to the existing PVC corrosion protection liner.
Bypass Pumping
Works occurred within a planned plant shutdown, requiring bypass pumping of over 2,000 L/s of sewer flows from multiple sources including the Geelong Main Outfall, Torquay and Barwon Heads outfalls, and various internal plant lines.
